He enjoys your company

Am I the only one who struggles to believe this? I feel like I can’t be the only one. Growing up in church, I knew in my head that God loved me. We were constantly singing the children’s song “Yes, Jesus loves me!” in children’s church, so I knew it must be true. But what I did not believe was that Jesus liked me.

If I am being honest, I thought God tolerated me. If someone had told me that God delights in me and enjoys my company, I would have said they were crazy. What do I have to offer Him? He pities me. That’s why He sticks around. When I come to Him, He rolls His eyes and says, “Oh great, another meeting with this one.” I am not among His favorite people. Right? NO. This could not be further from the truth, but I believed these intentionally crafted lies from the enemy.

The enemy’s number one motive is to pull you away from God. If he can get you to believe that God does not enjoy being with you, you do not come around as often. Who wants to hang out with someone who doesn’t like them?

The Bible is very clear on this matter. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will renew you in His love. He will delight in you with singing.” And Psalm 18:19 says, “He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”

Jesus did not save you because He had to. He did not hang on that cross ticked off that He had to die for you. He came because He LOVES you. He wants nothing more than to sit and talk with you. He hangs on every word you say. He is sitting beside your bed in anticipation, waiting for you to wake up and commune with Him. His desire is to have relationship with you. Every day, all day.

So yes, Jesus likes you. But more than that, He adores you. He delights in you. He can’t get enough of you. He enjoys your company. Before we can walk into the throne room of grace with fullest confidence (Hebrews 4:16), we must understand that Jesus LOVES spending time with us. You are His greatest delight. He wants your heart.

I would encourage you to spend time with the Lord and ask Him what He thinks about you. This changed my life. Sitting with the Lord and asking Him that question formed my identity. I finally started believing that God likes me and not only that, but He adores me. Look for what He says about you in His Word. Then, write those truths down. Put them on your mirror, your phone, your dashboard, your walls, keep His Word ever before you (Psalm 16:8). If you want to change a false mindset or thought pattern, take those thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and replace those thoughts with His truth.

If you’re like me, there have been trusted and loved people in your life who only spent time with you to gain something, or to use you. God is not like that. He doesn’t want to spend time with you for His gain, He wants to spend time with you because He wants a relationship with you. He wants to know you because He loves you.

I believe that if we can understand this simple truth, we can more fully and completely fall in love with God and start walking with Him daily. God has prepared a table for you so that you can commune with Him (Psalm 23:5). He delights in you! He enjoys your company! Spend time with Him and see what He says about you. I promise you, it will change your life.
